What is the difference between quality lines?
All of our flatware lines are made from the same high quality 18/10 stainless steel, but as you go up quality lines the gauge (thickness) of the steel increases. The dinner knives in the Lux, Heritage, and Sherrill Home lines (except for Classic Rim and Old harbor) are hollow handle, as opposed to the solid knives in the SMI line. Hollow handle knives are weighted for better balance, and allow for clearer pattern definition. Additionally, the patterns become more sophisticated and elegant as you go up quality lines. Finally, the higher end lines have a five star quality finish, the best in industry.
What is Euro sizing?
Euro sizing is bigger than the old American sizing. A typical dinner fork in Euro sizing is 8 1/4″ long as compared to a dinner fork in American sizing which is 7 ¼” long. It is also wider through the tines. The patterns that are smallest/lightest are Richmond/Satin Richmond (SMI line) and Susanna/Candra (Sherrill Home line). These are of the traditional American sizing. We also have many patterns that are in between the American and Euro sizing. These are all the patterns in our Heritage Line with the exception of Pearl and Satin Pearl. Also Kensington and Sheffield are in between sizing. If you click on any of the patterns, the sizes are listed under the descriptions for you to compare.

What is the difference between the solid and the hollow handle knife?
The solid knife is forged from a single rod of 410 stainless steel and is heavier than the hollow handle knives. The hollow handle knives are made from a forged blade of 410 stainless steel, joined with a hollow handle made of 18-10 stainless steel. The handle is filled with cement, to attach the blade and weight the knife. This makes the hollow handle knife nicely balanced. Because the handle is stamped from 18-10 stainless steel, the pattern definition is much clearer and can be more intricate than a forged knife.
